- Paul begins his second letter to the Corinthians with a salutation to the Corinthians and thanksgiving to God. He then goes on to apologize for not visiting the Corinthians after being in Macedonia. (see 2 Corinthians 1:1-2:4)
- Forgiveness is important. Paul stresses that it is important to forgive the person who slandered Paul during his last visit, so that that person can return to the fellowship of the church.
- Paul compares the spreading of the word of Christ to fragrance of incense.
