Read information regarding the Gospel of Luke. On the LGB website, select the Gospel of Luke tab. Information is given regarding that book. In addition, read the “Introduction to the Gospel according to Luke” in Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: The Gospel of Luke, by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch. If you have any other resources regarding the Gospel of Luke (i.e. bible, study bible, study guide), read those as well.
Read Luke 1:1-4 (Prologue).

Life Giving Bread 
1. I am taking part in this Bible study to draw closer to God and I am hoping it will encourage me to spend time daily reading my Bible. I love to read, but have a hard time being dedicated. I am excited to learn from other people through sharing what we learn each week.
2. I hate to say, but I really did not know a lot about Luke. I didn’t realize that he did a lot with Paul and I also did not know that he wrote Acts.
3.Theophilus was a Roman official and someone who helped to publish and distribute Luke’s writings.
4. The prologue tells me that Luke followed the Holy Spirit to write what God wanted and that he also researched by talking to people who had first hand experience on the events he will write about in this book. He also tried to go through in order of the events that happened.
5. I am not Catholic but I am learning along with all of you about the book of Luke and I am attending Sunday School at my church to learn more about God and grow more as a Christian so that I can show God’s love to others.
For me, the first question I look forward to deepening my relationship with my Jesus. I always enjoy sharing my faith journey with others & hearing other people’s stories, their joys and struggles of daily living. We learn from each other. So I am excited about the sharing and learning as well.
As for question #5, I am currently studying about my Catholic faith reading lots of books from the DynamicCatholic.com site. I am realizing how much I do not know about my church but actively learning & loving my new found love for the Church and my God.
I like this first question, because it helps me to remind myself the reason for taking time out of my day to study the bible. I want to become closer to God. There is so much for me to learn, and I enjoy increasing my knowledge of God and His love for us. It also brings me much comfort to hear everyone else’s thoughts and testimonies. I look forward to hearing from everyone!
In regards to Question #4, I think the Prologue shows us that Luke was an historian. He compiled all the information he knew into a format that would help everyone learn about God and the life of Jesus. I can relate to Luke, because I am also trying to help others to learn and to grow spiritually.
In regards to Question #5 (from the ICSB), we are all learning more about our faith by studying the Gospel of Luke right now. I know that I have a lot to learn about the Catholic faith, despite being raised Catholic and going to Catholic schools. The saying is true, “The more you know, the more you know you don’t know.”
