This Week’s Tidbit: Do You Love?

God is Love (1John 1:8). He consists of love, gives love, consumes love, breathes love….every fiber of His being is LOVE. Therefore, if we do not love, we do not have God within us.

The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference. If we hate someone or something, we still have feelings for that person/for it. However, if we are indifferent, we do not have feelings for him/her/it…we don’t care about him/her/it. Therefore, if we do not care if a person is happy and safe and feels loved, and/or if we do not care if we hurt their feelings by not visiting them or thanking them for what they have done for us….then we do not love him or her. Likewise, if we do not care if we talk to God (pray)…if we do not care whether or not we go to Church to bring Christ into us in the form of the Eucharist or to worship Him…if we do not care if we are pleasing God…if we do not care what happens to those around us, following God’s commandment to love one another, then…we do not love, i.e. we do not have God within us. To love means to bring God into your heart and to shower it onto those around you, including God himself, who deserves our greatest effort to love.

This Week’s Tidbit: Sacraments are MORE than a Sign

“Catholics believe that the sacraments are symbols, yes, but also that they are much more. A mere symbol teaches only a general truth that applies to many, but a sacrament touches me personally.” – Dr. David Anders, The Catholic Church Saved My Marriage

Sacraments not only impart God’s grace upon us. They are also a tool to aid us on our journey towards holiness. For this, and additional facts regarding the sacraments, please view the following website: https://www.catholic.org/prayers/sacrament.php

Catholic Tidbit: Mary Madgalene was not a Prostitute

There is no definitive proof in the Bible that Mary Madgalene was a prostitute. In actuality, she may have been confused with other women in the Bible, framed so as to keep women “in their place,” or to make a point, showing Jesus’ mercy. For more information, please check out this article: http://www.uscatholic.org/articles/200806/who-framed-mary-magdalene-27585

Catholic Tidbit: Even the Pope Sins

No one is perfect. We all sin…EVEN THE POPE!

Some people think Catholics believe the Pope does not sin, since we claim that he is infallible. However, infallibility is not the same as sinless. Here’s a nice article on the subject: https://www.catholic.com/tract/papal-infallibility

Catholic Tidbit: Jesus Didn’t Say “Psych”

Today, Catholics celebrate Corpus Christi, celebrating the real presence of the body and blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in the Eucharist—known as transubstantiation. [Wikipedia]. When saying “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of ma n and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him” (John 6:53–56), Jesus didn’t then follow that up with “Psych!” He didn’t say that he was just joking, or that he was talking figuratively, or anything like that. While hundreds of his followers walked away, he didn’t yell out “Just kidding! Come back and I’ll explain!”  For over 1500 years, Christians knew that Jesus wasn’t talking symbolically.

Here’s a great article on this topic: https://www.catholic.com/tract/christ-in-the-eucharist  Enjoy!
