We are now to chapters 38 and 39 in Genesis.  Please study these for this week.

For this week, please study Genesis chapters 35, 36 and 37. Chapter 36 is basically genealogy, so mostly names. That’s why we are studying three chapters this week.

In regards to Joseph’s brothers selling him, I can’t imagine brothers doing that to one another. How terrible! Their jealousy must have been very great.  To even think that, originally, they wanted to KILL him! I can’t grasp that.  I have three sons, and I can’t conceive of them ever doing something so harsh: selling their brother, or even more heinous, killing him. However, as we’ve seen so far in Genesis, killings of siblings happened. What a different environment they must have lived.

For this summer, I had planned on doing a bible study with my two oldest boys. After studying Genesis this past month, I am glad I went with the Gospel of John for my study with them instead of Genesis. Genesis has too much rape and murder! I am glad to be learning the background information, and of course the story of creation is beautiful, but I prefer to hold off on the Genesis study with my sons for at least a couple more years. What do you all think? How is your study going?

For this week, please study Genesis chapters 31 and 32. Jacob leaves Laban (his father-in-law), which results in Laban chasing after him and then the two making a covenant between them. Then, Jacob sends gifts ahead to the land of his birth in hopes that Esau (his brother from whom he stole their father’s blessing) will not do him harm.

We were going to PAUSE for the summer, but all the member feedback I received stated that they would like to continue on with this study over the summer. So…this week please study Genesis chapters 27 and 28!

As a heads up, there will be a few weeks where I will suggest that everyone study 3 chapters. These are due to shorter chapters or chapters with lists of names (not much study material). In all, I expect the remainder of our study to last ten weeks.

Our study of Genesis is coming to a PAUSE. For this week, we are to study Genesis chapters 25 and 26, which gets us halfway through Genesis. Is everyone getting a chance to study this week?

Would anyone prefer to continue on with this study instead of breaking for the summer? If not, we will take it back up September 4th.

I have heard from at least one member of our group that they are really enjoying this study. They are enjoying it SO MUCH that they are reading ahead and might finish ALL of Genesis before the summer break 🙂 Is everyone else enjoying the study as well? Are you learning anything new?
