Today’s Gospel reading is about the temptation of Christ. How fitting, then, that our readings this week are in regards to giving in to temptations: 1) Adam and Eve eating from the tree of life, 2) Cain killing his brother Abel.

“In the beginning . . .” (Genesis 1:1)
Here is where it all started. What a great beginning for us to delve into the Old Testament!
This week, please read the introduction to Genesis as well as Chapters 1 and 2. In addition, please answer the corresponding study questions.
Each week, we will cover two chapters, so that by the end of May, we will have completed about half of Genesis. We will then take a break over the summer, returning to our study of Genesis in September.

For those who ordered an “Ignatius Catholic Study Bible – Genesis” book through me, the books have arrived!
We begin our study of Genesis this Sunday, February 7th.
The next study for the Life Giving Bread group will be “Genesis.” This will be our first study from the Old Testament. What better way than to start at the beginning?
The study will begin Sunday, February 7, 2016. We will study two chapters per week and cover the first 26 chapters of the Book of Genesis. The study on the remaining 24 chapters of the Book of Genesis will take place September 4th through November 26th (also 2 chapters/week).
This study is open to everyone (Adults, teenagers, Catholics, non-Catholics). The purpose of the study is to grow in the knowledge of God and the scripture. To participate, “Follow” this website and/or “Like” the LGB Facebook page www.facebook.com/lifegivingbread to receive weekly reminders and other information. In addition, you will need a bible study guide. I recommend using the “Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: Genesis” by Scott Hahn & Curtis Mitch. This book contains biblical text, notes regarding the text on each page, and study questions. I will be placing an order for those interested and living in or near the Louisville area by January 31st. Contact me by then if you would like for me to order a copy for you. The cost of the book is $$10.67.
