Next Session Begins on Sept. 1st

Blessings everyone,

Welcome to all our new and returning members!  I hope you all enjoy your time studying with us.   Welcome also to anyone checking out this website.  Feel free to join in this study or contact me if you have any questions.

Is everyone ready to get started on our study of the Gospel of Luke?  We are one week away!  Our start date for this session is September 1st.  Later this week, I will post the questions for the group to ponder for Week 7.  The verses to study each week are shown on the “Schedule” on the LGB website.

Please feel free to give me feedback on your experience using the LGB website, using the LGB Schedule, the group’s recommended study guide, etc.  I think studying the bible opens our eyes to how God is working in our lives.  It is my desire that each one of you finds ways to strengthen your spirit during your study.

For those who still do not have a copy of the study guide this group is using, Ignatius Catholic Study Bible – The Gospel of Luke, by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch, let me know.  I still have some copies left.

If you have any questions and/or comments, or if you have any problems using the LGB website or in getting emailed posts, please feel free to contact me at lgbbiblestudy@gmail.com.

God bless you all,

Angie

New Session Begins September 1st

Blessings to you all!

September 1st is two weeks away.  Are you ready to continue with our study of the Gospel of Luke?

Week 7 of our study will begin with Luke 9:51.  If you are not to that point in your study, please try your best to catch up before September 1st.

I met with some of the Directors of Education in our region this past week.  They were so excited about the LGB bible study group!  They liked the idea of having an online bible study group.  As a result, they will be putting a flier about the group in their newsletters and bulletins.  It is the same flier you will see at St. Athanasius hopefully next weekend.   As a result, we may begin to see many new members to the group from other parishes.  For example, I got one call this evening from one person who will be joining!  She is a parishioner of Blessed Theresa of Calcutta in Fairdale, KY.  Please help me in welcoming everyone to the group!

If you or anyone you know needs a study guide, please let me know.   I still have some copies.  We can also order more if necessary.  Feel free to invite more people to join the LGB study group. Books are $8 for those that are not St. Athanasius parish members.

If you have an Ignatius Catholic Study Bible – The Gospel of Luke, by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch book that I gave you, but don’t intend to ever use it, you may give it back to me and I will pass it on.

With this new session, if anyone has any suggestions on how I can make it better, or if I need to make any changes or additions, please DO NOT hesitate to let me know.  I want to help make this format of study helpful to everyone.  I am open to any thoughts on how to do this.

I hope everyone has had a safe and restful summer.  I look forward to hearing about it.  Plus, if you read any good Christian books or saw any good faith-centered movies this summer, or if you visited a place that you felt a connection to Christ, please let everyone know on the Member Corner page of the LGB website.

Prayer Request

Blessings everyone,

Please pray for a fellow St. Athanasius member and her family.  Tina Hartson passed away yesterday.  She was very involved with the parish and school. She leaves behind a loving family and friends and a school family who will miss her tremendously.

We never know what each day with bring.  Sometimes joy and sometimes sorrow.  Let’s remember to live each day like it may be our last.    Live our lives as best we can according to God’s will.

Your friend in Christ,

Angie

Study Reminder

Hi everyone!

It is a dreary day so far today.  It is a nice day to read a good book, if you have the time, and I have the perfect reading suggestion 🙂  If you haven’t caught up yet on your Gospel of Luke study, may I suggest taking some time for it today?  If you are already caught up, may I suggest reading another spiritual book, like those listed on Member Corner?

I don’t know about you, but I find it a little harder to study the bible in the summer.  I want to spend as much time outside enjoying God’s creation with my boys.  Therefore, when I come across days like this where the kids want to stay in anyway, I can take some time to enjoy THE Good Book 🙂

Have a wonderful week!

God bless you all,

Angie

Study Reminder

Blessings to everyone!

My Mom’s Bible study group continues our study of the Gospel of Luke a couple of weeks per month during the summer break.  As I was preparing for our next meeting, I read the Good Samaritan parable in Luke.  When done, and as the kids were still out with my husband, I turned on the TV.  Within a short time of finishing my bible study, the show I was watching mentioned the Good Samaritan parable.  I smiled!  I love these coincidences.   It makes me feel like God is giving me a nudge, saying, “I saw what you were doing.  I care.  It’s worth it.  Keep it up!”

If you haven’t read and studied up to Luke 9:50, please take the time to do it this summer.    Plus, please share your thoughts on the LGB website.

We will continue with Luke 9:51 on September 1st.

Has anyone got any suggestions for Summer Reading?

Hope everyone is well.

Your friend in Christ,

Angie

Week 6 Study Reminder

Blessings everyone!

This is the 6th and final study week for this first session.   We we resume our study of the Gospel of Luke on September 1st.

What did everyone think of this study format?   Please provide me with your comments and suggestions so that I can continue to make improvements.

For this week, we are reading  Luke 8:1-9:50 (The Ministry in Galilee – Part Three).  You can view the questions for this week and share with the group on the Week 6 page.

I hope this bible study group has been a good experience for you and I hope you will join us again in September.

This summer, may I suggest picking out a spiritual book (or two or three) to read.  “If every Catholic were to read a good Catholic book for fifteen minutes a day this habit alone could be a game changer for the Church in our time.” (Matthew Kelly, “Rediscover Catholicism”).  Reading spiritual books helps keep us connected to the Holy Spirit.  It helps give our lives direction, because it opens our eyes so that we can see God at work in our everyday lives.

Some suggestions I have for books are:

“Rediscover Catholicism,” by Matthew Kelly

“The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic,” by Matthew Kelly

“Good News About Sex and Marriage,” by Christopher West

“Theology of the Body for Beginners,” by Christopher West.

These are shown on the Member Corner page.  Please share your book suggestions on that page as well.

May God bless you and keep your mind and eyes open to his wonder this summer.

Your friend in Christ,

Angie

Week 5 Reminder

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers!

Just two weeks left of the first half of our Luke bible study.  There is a lot of material in this week’s reading that you can apply to your life.  Please take the time to read the material, ponder it, and add your thoughts to the Week 5 page.  I’ve included some notes on the page along with the questions I’ve come up with for the group.  If anyone thinks of other questions or notes, feel free to share them with us.

God Bless you all!

Angie
