Leading A Horse To Water

As the saying goes, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.” I can get frustrated by my attempts to get people interested in bible study or learning more about their faith. However, I can’t MAKE them do it. Know that your efforts to improve your own spirituality will set a good example for others. Eventually, they may choose to “drink” too. Keep it up!

Study Reminder – Week 12

Hello my fellow bible studiers,

One great benefit of belonging to an online bible study group is the study structure.  I know for me, it is hard sometimes to stay motivated if I don’t have a schedule to follow.  With all that life entails, I can get pretty busy.  However, having a schedule helps remind me to take time to reflect upon God’s words.  In doing so, I allow God to provide “Life Giving Bread” and continue to sustain me through His words.

After this week, we only have 3 more weeks of study for Acts.  Soon after, we will begin studying the Gospel of Matthew.  Therefore, it is important to try to keep up with the weekly schedule so that we can be ready for our next bible study.   How is everyone doing with their study?  Are you keeping up?

Please plan ahead to obtain a copy of “Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: The Gospel of Matthew” by Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch or for you to obtain another study guide that you would prefer.  If you are in the Louisville, KY area, please contact me to let me know if you would like the Ignatius book.  I can order copies through my church and possibly get a group discount for us.

This week is Week 12 of our study of The Acts of the Apostles.  Please read   Acts 21:15-22:30, which begins the readings of Paul as a prisoner and his witness to Jesus’ resurrection.

Have you ever been falsely accused?  How did you get out of it or did the accusation remain? Did you stand up for yourself?  Did God play a role in how you handled the situation?  If so, how?

Please post your comments on the Week 12 page or on our Facebook page.

God bless you all!

Angie

Study Reminder – Week 11

“When we are faithful to who God created us to be, and what God calls us to do, incredible things happen.”     Matthew Kelly, “The Four Signs Of A Dynamic Catholic”

God has a plan for each one of us.  How do you live your life? Are you living up to the full potential that God has planned for you?   Or, have wolves or your own hubris torn you away from your intended path?

In this week’s readings, Paul takes stock of his life.  He knows that peril awaits him, and he is okay with that fact.  He is pleased with how he has lived his life.   Can you say the same about your own life?

This week, we are completing our readings of Paul’s Mission to the Gentiles (Acts 20:1-21:14).  Please review the ICSB questions that correspond to these verses and/or read and contemplate questions from any study source you are utilizing.  Lastly, please share your comments or questions on the Week  11 page or on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/lifegivingbread)

May God bless you and may His Spirit guide you in your study.

Your sister in Christ,

Angie

Study Reminder – Week 10

Dear fellow bible study members,

Along with this bible study group, I also take part in St. Athanasius’ Book Club, and I lead the Wednesday morning bible study group at St. A.  Recently, during a study period, I found it hard to answer some of the questions posed to me by the study material.  My life had been going fine, no major complaints, and it was hard to answer questions regarding my faith and how I use my faith during times of trial.  I don’t recall exactly how I handled past trials.  Did I ask God for help?  I am pretty sure I did, but I don’t know how much and how frequently.

Then, I had my own trial.  It was minor in most respects.  No one was injured.  All that was hurt was my pride, my car, and the car I slid into.  Yep . . . you guessed it.  I was involved in a car accident.  Luckily no one was hurt.  I should find out soon if my car can be fixed and at what cost.  However, what I am really thinking about right now is, what was my reaction to the accident?  Did I handle myself as a Christian should?  Did I give thanks to God for the fact that only the cars were physically affected?  Was my faith weakened or strengthened by the incident?  What can I learn about my faith?  Is there room for improvement?

I am trying to find the good in the accident.  It was not God’s fault that it occurred, only human error.  However, it is a nice step towards working on my faith and how I exemplify my Christianity and how I can use it to better myself.

The readings for this week, Week 10, is Acts 18:1-19:41.  It is a continuation of Paul’s mission to the Gentiles.  Paul tried so hard to teach everyone about Jesus.  Some listened, but there were always some that didn’t.  He didn’t give up though.  He kept on traveling, spreading the word.  May we find strength in his convictions and use our time and talents to spread the Word of God through our words and our actions.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle trials and disappointments in life?  If so, please feel free to post your comments on the Week 10 page or on the Facebook page.

May God bless you all,

Angie

Study Reminder – Week 9

This begins Week 9 of our study of The Acts of the Apostles.

Please read about Paul’s Mission to the Gentiles (Part 1) – Acts 15:36-17:34.

In this week’s readings, Paul and Silas are beaten.  Have you ever been treated unjustly? How did you handle it?  Would you do it any different today?

Please share your response to this question and/or the ICSB questions on the Acts’ Week 9 page at http://www.lifegivingbread.com or on our Facebook book page https://www.facebook.com/lifegivingbread.  Also, feel free to include any other comments you have regarding this week’s readings or anything else you would like to share with the group.

May God bless you and continue to nurture your desire to know Him better.

Your friend in Christ,

Angie

Study Reminder – Week 8

Hello fellow bible study members!

One of the blessings of snow is that it allows us to slow down a bit, take it easy, and reflect on God’s wonderful creation.   The pure white snow . . . the quietness . . . the calm (don’t think about that car sliding sideways into the mailbox) . . . the simplicity of spending time with family/loved ones.  What a beautiful time to remind us of how blessed we are and how thankful we should be for the creation God gave us.  It sure keeps us on our toes at time, but it also makes us slow down to appreciate the serenity it can bring.

Tomorrow begins Week 8.  Please read: Mission of Barnabas and Saul (Part 2) – Acts 14:1-15:35 and share your thoughts, questions, and/or answers on the LGB website or LGB Facebook page.

Week 8’s readings reminds us how important the Holy Spirit was in continuing on Jesus’ mission after his death.  The Spirit is always with us to help guide us in our own evangelization.  Please pray to the Spirit for guidance and go out there and help spread the word of God’s love for all.  No one is exempt from His love if only they believe.

Your friend in Christ,

Angie
